Bon Voyage!

Let’s start at the beginning. We are a family who are on a journey of a lifetime: sailing to the Bahamas! We have been preparing our boat, a Catalina 42, for this trip for many months. The boat is far from homey, but is cozy, and is slowly getting to that point! Right now we are in Slidell, yesterday we sailed across Lake Pontchartrain! We had to motor most of the way (lucky us😉), but the sailing portion was very enjoyable. Since there was wind coming from the Northeast, the Southshore was a little choppy, but it smoothed out once we neared the Northshore. We went under a draw bridge, and it was sort of fun to see all the cars line up. Once we got past the bridge and started towards the harbor we are staying at, we had some confusion concerning the depth meter. It was the depth under the keel, but we mistakenly thought it was total depth. We started freaking out, because we thought we were going to run aground, but after we measured it with a rope, we realized our mistake. After that we had a peaceful evening. We ate dinner at a marina cafe in walking distance of the marina, showered, and settled in for the night.
